hi guys sorry if this is intrusive but im currently trying to get ahold of a license to the source engine, im just wondering how you guys actually went about it (did you build a demo first then submit it to valve?) and how much did the license cost or did you come to an agreement on sales?
thanks in advance.

I'm not in the liberty of discussing our agreement with Valve, but you are likely to be able to settle an arrangement if you have a good demo of your game that interests them. This sort of answers the first part of your question... We showed them a good demo of our work and with that we were able to negotiate the license. The gameplay mechanics of the game were still not final (pretty beta... the game improved A LOT after that demo), but the first screens that were posted of Zeno Clash in the media were actually levels of our demo (levels we built only using the open tools... like a mod). The graphics and art style of our demo were very polished.

hi carlos thanks for the reply! my apologies if i sounded over zealous about asking about arrangements with valve,
of course that stuff would confidential. sorry. i had a funny feeling a demo would be needed to get any kind of real attention, however was this purely a graphical demo or an actual playable one?? and as for the name of the game lol i think it waaay too early yet... ill let you guys know if we get anywhere
Zeno clash is awesome by the way, its fantastically fresh to play and the melee combat is really defined well done guys!

I've been a bit curious about this; every now and then there's a thread on Steampowered asking this question.
Thanks for clearing it up.

It's good to know that info, but I'm not going to be making any Source engine games anytime soon.

Hey, no problem. Glad to be able to help out.

The demo was completely playable. What we showed Valve were two of the current maps of the game (with most of the cinematics and voice acting, etc...

The maps were the city map where you fight the northern gate gang, and the bar + outdoors environment where you fight the elephant. The gameplay mechanics were far from being as good as they are now, but it definitely was playable.
