Loving the B-move vibe! How many awards did the movie win back in the day?

Holy sound asset re-use, Batman! I don't blame you (ACE Team) for using a bunch of the same sounds as in Abyss Odyssey, but that bleep when he gets the raygun is straight outta the original Deus Ex, did you know that?

If the narrator was supposed to be reading his script all wrong and getting mismatched with the subtitles, that's some impressive dedication to b-movie badness. "The fearless sea monster, eagerly awaiting for his next meal," he says.

Hopefully we haven't reused too many past game SFXs. What are the most noticeable ones?

The raygun sound, being from Deus Ex; that's a mystery. I think it came straight out of a sound library. Actually, I remember we found a lot of sounds from Serious Sam when we purchased our first sound library (when we were making Zeno Clash).

I guess things like the 'wilhelm scream' tend to happen in games too. smile.gif

That's great to hear. There's a ton of more director commentary in the game, with a lot of hilarious contextual lines. I hope everyone else enjoys the humorous tone of this game.

Well, I've become familiar enough with Abyss Odyssey that I heard the same sounds for pot-shattering, coin-collecting, lasers, weapon hits, Dick's grunts, footsteps, jumping, and landing.

The 'clunk' sound of the platform collapsing is also used in Half-Life 2 as a physics impact sound, but I imagine it's also from a common sound library. The Deus Ex sound I mention can be heard here. I wouldn't be surprised if it also came from a sci-fi bleep-bloop sound library but I've never heard it used anywhere else.

I dunno, I never hear anyone else talk about common sound effects so maybe I'm just weirdly obsessed with identifying them. I would be shocked if your game didn't include at least one instance of the Wilhelm Scream as well, though. wink.gif Also, consider using the Howie Scream too!

Yeah, it was great, kind of reminded me of Cave Johnson's shtick. I think the theme of a b-movie action game might get tiresome really quickly if there isn't a steady stream of funny, cutting commentary to go with it. From what we've seen so far, it looks like you could pull it off. Looking forward to it!

Wilhelm scream is in! smile.gif

I wasn't familiar with the term Howie scream till I googled it just now. Yes, I've heard that one, but I can imagine it's a little harder to use in proper context. I'll see what we can do about it. Thanks for the tip!

So, I notice when Googling the game, on the right hand side of the search results it claims the release date is in September. But I can't verify that information anywhere - is that for sure the release window? I know the official website says fall 2015, but no mention of the exact month.

That's most likely a target date. Can't really confirm it will be coming out exactly then though. There's the cert thing, you know... tongue.gif

So the Sound Library we're using has sounds from Serious Sam and now Deus Ex... alrighty then! unsure.gif
It's a really old collection. Has a lot of vintage sci-fi sounds and that's why we're using it. I'm pretty sure this means a ton of games use some of the bleeps we're using.

Nope, unfortunately not... sad.gif

We're still using Unreal Engine 3 (which isn't officially supported by Epic for the new consoles). This means we have our own custom UE3 port for PS4 and that was a ton of work. Doing the same for XBox One would have taken just too many resources from our programming team which is small.

We are moving to UE4 for future projects and won't have this problem when we do so.

You guys are so creative, I've been a big fan of ACE for a long time, Not a lot of game studios would think of making a game about a cheesy sci fi movie.
Always a pleasure to see the stuff you all come up with, the worlds and characters are always awesome, game looks great, and its nice to see you doing a more lighthearted game.

Glad that you like the concept. We're cooking up a lot of more stuff for Deadly Tower. Been really busy developing the final stages of the game and working hard on the PS4 version. We'll start showing off new stuff soon, so stay tuned!
