Now that Zeno Clash 2 has received Trading Cards, is there also a possibility for Rock of Ages or do you think the game might be "too old" for that? It could be a good selling point for people who don't have the game yet and who like Trading Cards, especially when there is a special sale for the game (like Midweek Madness or so).

We might do it... it'll depend on whether we do some sort of promotion in the future or not.

Adding cards is a promotion in itself.

Indeed... but getting Valve to do a discount for you (and give you front page coverage), that's what counts.

It can't hurt, getting people to play the game again, exposing it a bit more to their friends, even without a discount. Some will buy it just for the cards too (yeah, 'tis mad, I know!). Why the powers that be insist on fusing these 2 different things together is beyond me cool.gif

I agree, but going through a discount simultaneously with the trading cards has more punch than releasing them by themselves.

When we did the trading cards for ZC2 we asked Valve if we should release them immediately or if we should wait for the (recently done) promotion. They recommended we wait and have them both launched together.

Since it isn't completely out of the question to do a new ROA promo (maybe new content?), we benefit the most if we do trading cards (if we have the time) then.

The thing is, the store front banner didn't say anything about the cards that you added to ZC2. That reasoning would have made more sense if they used it in the store marketing, but they didn't.
You can release the cards now and users who are interested in this sort of meta game get the game now or play it again thus spreading the news, and later on release a new update/have a discount announcing "now with cards", which will be the truth too. IMHO.

You're probably right, but we're currently not assigning resources to RoA until we've determined a proper course of action for a future promo/possible update. As usual the current project has everybody swamped. smile.gif

Well it's at least nice to know how you take this sort of decisions and set your priorities.

In case you decide to go for it - I've been banging my head against a boulder to come up with ideas:

Assets needed:
- 5+ trading cards
- 6 badges
- 4+ emoticons
- 4+ profile backgrounds
Reference: Steam Trading Card Exchange (http://www.steamcardexchange.net/index.php?showcase)

Assets available:
- 15 boulders (11 faces + 4 powerups)
- 24 characters
- 23 places / maps
- 5 art periods
- and dozens of 2D & 3D units

The art periods would make fantastic backgrounds! The trollface boulder could be either a rare emoticon or the foil badge... Anyway, it's not my call. Thanks for reading smile.gif

Thanks for the suggestions Qwatch! Hopefully we'll have some time to implement trading cards not so long into the future. I agree that those would be very cool additions for the game.
