Hi. Got a question about a project your team did eons ago, The Dark Conjunction.
I'm currently converting Q3A to use modern shaders, with the aim of making a commercial indie game myself. Since Q3A code had been released under GNU license, I can use it how I like, including selling a game made from it, as long as I release the source as well for free. A lot of code in TDC would be handy for me too, like the game loading and saving. But I'm a bit unclear on the license. It currently reads: QUOTE TDC Source Code Licensing Terms ------------------------------- As we were not able to find any license that was fit for the TDC Code, we are describing, in short, our hopes of how the code will be used by people who download it. 1. FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT: GIVE US THE CORRESPONDING CREDITS IN YOUR "README.TXT"s AND GAME CREDITS. We have spent lots (i mean LOTS) of hours working in this code for free. We always believed in the quake3 community and it's will for a great single player mod. We think we have done a good job, so we deserve (at least) to appear in your project credits if you use our code in some way. That is, if you copy part of it, use some great idea (such the NPC AI management code), or anything, please do not forget to add the corresponding line to your credits AND "readme"s. 2. The Code is released without warranty of any type, you can guess why... any case, questions can be sent to me (jpl@ing.puc.cl), I would be very glad to help people continue this project or any other project based on it. 3. You can freely distribute the TDC code as long as it contains a copy of both the readme text and the license text. Well... that's it, enjoy! JPL - Lead Programmer It says I can "freely" distrubute the "code"... but I'm wondering if that means I'm allowed to make a commercially sold binary as long as I make the source available for free, much like the GNU license. If I included the code in my project, I think it'd end up GNU anyway. I'd certainly be happy to include the ACE team in the credits, including your logo and web address. So would you allow me (and by extension, others) to use the code in a commercial project and make it covered by the GNU that covers the rest of the Q3A code? |

No problem! Go ahead and use it. Please only credit Juan Pablo Lastra, who is the author of the code and is not currently part of our team.
Don't forget to send a link to your game when you finish it |
